Our Mission

Winegrowers of Napa County is a non-profit organization whose principal mission is to advance policy that preserves sustainable agriculture as the highest and best use of the natural resources while protecting the ability of wineries to produce, market and sell wine.

Our Members

As a non-profit trade organization consisting of nineteen winery, vineyard manager, and grape grower members, Winegrowers is made up of only a small number of the more than 400 wineries in Napa County. However, our members have a long history in the Napa Valley and are committed to the overall long-term health of the industry.

Sustainability Facts, Practices, and Efforts

The Napa Valley wine industry epitomizes the adage “big things come in small packages.” Napa Valley farmers grow only 4% of California’s wine grapes, but hold 40% of all sustainability winery certifications statewide, and are responsible for a disproportionate 30% of California’s total winegrape revenue.

Sustainable Agriculture is essential for us to be able to continue doing what we love, and to keep this industry healthy and thriving for generations to come.

Our members are leaders in stewardship of the land, community and economy.

ROMBAUER VINEYARDS

Rombauer Vineyards views winemaking as a holistic endeavor. Highlights of their sustainability efforts include:

  • Solar power provides 60% of our energy at our Napa wineries.

  • All green waste generated from the vineyards and winery is composted and used as a natural fertilizer, returning essential nutrients to our soils.

  • All cardboard, plastic and glass from bottling is recycled.

  • Our water-use efficiency is unparalleled in the industry using 2.4 gallons of water for each gallon of wine produced vs. industry average of 6–14 gallons of water per gallon of wine.

  • Water monitoring, including neutron probes, evapotranspiration sensors and pressure chambers, ensures efficient water use in the vineyard.

  • First winery to install Cambrian EcoVolt to treat wastewater onsite

  • Double dripper irrigation lines allow us to deliver water only to the sections of our vineyards that need it.

  • Nesting boxes provide homes for barn owls that prey naturally on vineyard pests such as rodents and gophers.

  • All of our vineyards are either Napa Green or Fish Friendly Farming certified by the California Land Stewardship Institute. Growing practices at these sites help protect endangered Coho Salmon and Steelhead Trout.

  • Our Napa wineries are both certified Napa Green.
